Thank you for your interest in the Summer Student Fellowship at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution!

    Program eligibility

    Summer Student Fellowships are awarded to undergraduate students who will have completed their junior year at colleges or universities by the start of the fellowship period. Students who will graduate/earn their Bachelor's degree before the fellowship begins are not eligible to apply. The program is designed for students to participate in the last summer of their undergraduate years.

    • Students in a three year Bachelor's degree program, such as those in the UK, must be in their second year to apply.
    • Students in a five year combined Bachelor/Master's degree program must be in the third year of the program to apply.

    Navigating the Application

    This application supports all browsers updated in the last year except for Internet Explorer. For a better experience, we recommend using Google Chrome with a minimum resolution of 1024x768 on desktop. To navigate this application on mobile, your screen must have a minimum display width of 320px. Read more here.

    You can save your progress in two ways:

    1. Clicking the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page
    2. Clicking on the left sidebar menu to open another page

    Both methods will open the next page of the application. Before the new page loads, the application will save your progress. If you close the application window without clicking “Continue” or the left hand menu, your progress will not be saved and you will lose some application data. To avoid common application errors, please review the instructions at the top of each page before filling in your information.
     

    References

    The application requires two letters of recommendation from professors or others familiar with the applicant's academic and/or research capabilities. References will be contacted directly by the system by email when their names and information are entered. Letters must be submitted via the link provided in the email; paper letters or emailed references cannot be accepted.

    Please enter your recommendation contact information early so they have time to submit by the deadline, February 5th. You must provide information for your recommenders in order to submit your application.
